Personal Tips on How to Improve Your Self Esteem

Are you struggling with low self esteem and would like to become more self confident? I suffered with this for some time and tried many different ways to get back my personal poise. From my own experience I have listed below my personal tips on the best ways to improve your self esteem.

1. Love and belief in yourself
You are a unique individual and have to recognize that you possess positive traits and abilities and are inferior to nobody. Stop comparing yourself with other people and thinking that they are better than you. This is especially so when it comes to material possessions and other peoples "perceived" wealth. A lot of this stems from the media obsession of so called celebrities and trying to aspire to their lifestyle. In order to improve your self esteem you have to love who you are and acknowledge that your personal qualities make a worthwhile contribution to the world. Realize as well that other people who in your eyes seem better off have problems too despite the image they portray to you.

2. Make other people feel important
What has this got to do with how to improve your self esteem you may ask? This point is very important and works most of the time as long as you come across as genuine - which you must be. If you treat every person you meet as being important they will very likely reciprocate your behavior and make you feel likewise. When you are treated with genuine warmth and friendship this will improve your self esteem tenfold and you will start to feel good about yourself. Greet them with a warm handshake, listen attentively to what they have to say and respond with positive body language such as direct eye contact and a nodding of the head. Don't interrupt when they're speaking and show you care about their concerns. Remember their name and greet them with it. Try it- it works!

3. Stop feeling negative
This will take some practice but if you really want to improve your self esteem, overcoming a negative outlook on life is critical to your success. It is true that how you think about yourself is how you are (there are many books on this subject) and in order to change and improve self esteem you must learn to adopt a more positive attitude. The minute you start to feel negative about something - stop and replace the thought with a positive one. Think about a situation that made you laugh or an achievement that made you feel proud of yourself. Start to think more positive and circumstances around you will become more positive and this in turn will improve your self esteem

4. Do activities you love doing
When you are engaged in activities that make you feel good then this really is one of the top ways of how to improve your self esteem. Doing something you love doing gives a more focused and positive outlook on life and the enjoyment you get from these activities, whether reading a book or listening to music for example, will give you that feeling of contentment. Yes, you really can boost your self esteem by indulging yourself so make time to do the things you love.

5 Exercise
Exercise has been medically proven to help eliminate stress and depression. These symptoms can frequently manifest when we suffer from low self esteem so it is a good idea to get into an exercise routine. However it is important that you don't look upon this as a chore or it will have a negative effect. The key is to do exercises that you enjoy doing whether it's a walk in the park or a rigorous session down at the gym. Cycling or swimming are also favorites for a lot of people. Also the duration of this exercise does not need to be long- 30 minutes 2 or 3 times a week is sufficient If your low self esteem is caused by poor body image then this will dramatically improve your well being as you will in time see a slimmer fitter you.
These then are the most significant factors that helped me improve my self esteem and I sincerely hope they can help you to. However if you feel you cannot overcome low self esteem by yourself it is advisable to get help either by sharing your problems with people you know or seeking professional medical advise.

Two monitors are better than one

Published 6/14/2010 by Admin in Articles
You can never have enough screen space, especially when organizing and working on your digital pictures. Instead of buying a larger monitor, if you're using Windows 7, Vista, or XP, you can buy an inexpensive second monitor and connect it to your computer—instantly doubling your desktop space.

Flat panel LCD monitors look great and will save room on your desk; CRT monitors also work well and can be less expensive.

Two monitors are better than one

There are several different ways you can make use of this extra screen space when working at home or in your office. If you take a lot of digital pictures, some of the advantages to having dual monitors at your work space include:

  • When browsing your picture library, you can view the thumbnails on one monitor, and use the second monitor to view pictures full screen to check for proper focus and image quality.

  • When editing photos, you can use one monitor to browse the pictures with Windows Explorer or a photo library program, and use the second monitor to edit the pictures with your photo-editing software.

  • If you need to stay on top of your e-mail while working, you can keep your inbox open on one monitor and work on your photos on the other.

Set up two monitors on your desktop computer

Many new desktop computers support dual monitors without requiring any additional hardware. To see if you have more than one monitor connection, look at the back of your computer for two Video Graphics Array (VGA) connectors or two Digital Visual Interface (DVI) connectors or one of each.

VGA and DVI connectors for dual monitors

Most new desktop computers include two connectors to support dual monitors

If you only have a single VGA or DVI connector, you will need to install a video adapter. You can either install a second video adapter or replace your current video adapter with one that has two VGA or DVI connections. Installing video adapters can be difficult if you're not familiar with the inside of your computer, so you may want to seek assistance from a local computer retailer that offers computer upgrade services.

Add a monitor to your laptop computer

If you have a laptop computer made in the last several years, you can almost certainly support an external monitor by connecting it to the VGA or DVI connector on the back of your computer. The external monitor can act as a second display to your laptop's built-in display. Connect your second monitor. You may have to restart your computer so that it detects the new monitor. After you connect your second monitor, you have to adjust your display settings.

Configuring your displays:

Troubleshooting: If you do not see two monitor icons, your computer might not support multiple displays. First, make sure that you have Windows 7, Windows Vista, or Windows XP installed. Then, visit Microsoft Update, click Custom, and install any available hardware updates. You may also need to visit your computer manufacturer's Web site to install an updated display driver. If you still do not see two monitor icons, you may need to install an additional display adapter.

If necessary, drag the monitor icons so that they are arranged in the same way as the monitors on your desk. Click the Identify Monitors button to verify which monitor is 1 and which monitor is 2.

Example of dual monitor setup

A dual monitor setup enables you to view the same image side by side.

Once your monitor is set up, you can use your mouse to grab the title bar of a window and drag it to your new display. If a window does not move when you drag it, double-click the title bar first, and then drag it. Having two monitors will forever change the way you work with your computer. Be creative and experiment with the sizing of application windows and what information you can keep in constant view while doing multiple tasks.
